James 3:1-12 - Blessings / Curses

Reflect

When have you seen or experienced a significant amount of damage done by a few words?

How does this passage help you to be more careful about how you use your tongue?

Taking the Lord's name in vain isn't simply about saying His name inappropriately. The word vain can mean “empty,” “nothing,” “worthless,” or “to no good purpose.” God's people are called not to bear the name, as the phrase could be translated, in a worthless or wrong way.

  • Knowing this, what are some areas you may need to stop taking the Lord's name in vain? Think through practical areas such as your singleness, marriage, family, relationships, and finances.
